Congratulations!

Congratulations on getting through your tattoo! Your artist has wrapped your arm up to protect it from the elements until you get home… now what?
** Remember - your tattoo is a fresh open wound so please look after it **
Lets start with the Do’s and end with the Do Not’s

We sell Numb Skulled tattoo aftercare in-store which we highly recommend.

Day 1

When you get home, take the wrap off soon as you can. Wash the tattoo with warm soapy water to clean any blood and ink (for larger pieces such as sleeves it may be easier to have a shower).
Pat the tattoo dry making sure not to rub it dry as this will agitate the tattoo.
Apply your preferred aftercare cream, work the cream in so it is a clear film and this will act as a barrier to the elements.
When going to sleep, wear clothing that will cover the tattoo because it will leak overnight and we don’t want your sheets getting ruined.

The next few days

After showering in the morning, pat your tattoo dry and apply your aftercare cream. Apply cream 2-3 times throughout the day including before bed.
Your tattoo will begin to form a scab which means you can start applying a moisturiser with Vitamin E properties to speed up the healing process.

Scabbing and that bloody itch

When the tattoo has formed into a scab it can be quite itchy. Which is a good thing because your body is healing. DON’T PICK OR SCRATCH!
Instead give it a light slap, it helps with that annoying itch and works a treat.
Continue to moisturise your tattoo and the scabs ill fall of naturally.
You will find that the scabs are becoming flakey (almost like a cornflake) and you may even see a bunch of it fallen off over night in bed.
Let it do its thing until all the scab has fallen off.

Your Tattoo is now healed

The scabs have fallen off but it looks kind of white?
This is normal and it is just the new skin generating over the tattoo.
Apply moisturiser to hydrate it and exfoliate it with a loofa.
Some tattoos take longer than others but you can expect it to be fully healed in about 2-3 weeks

The Do Not’s

When your tattoo is healing it is VERY important that you do not-

  • Submerge your tattoo underwater (eg. swimming pools, baths, beach etc)
    Showering is fine

  • Expose it to the sun for long periods of time (if you must go in the sun, use sunscreen!)

  • Pick or scratch your healing tattoo (this mentioned above but we will say it again)

  • Roll around in the mud (clearly this is exaggerated but please keep it clean and out of extreme elements such as dusty, dirty environments, away from animal hair and chemicals)

Lastly, once again, your tattoo is a open wound. Keep it clean, keep it dry and apply your aftercare cream. This is a forever thing so lets give it a good start.
